Flat-pack furniture is designed to be assembled by one person with the included tool, and it usually can be, given three hours and a high tolerance for ambiguous diagrams. Anti-tip anchoring is the part we will not skip. Dressers and bookcases tip over, and the injuries are serious and involve small children. Most flat-pack kits include the strap and most people never install it. We do, and if the wall behind is concrete block — common in this county — it gets a masonry anchor rather than a drywall plug.
Outdoor and lanai furniture has a specific Pinellas problem: humidity and salt air seize the fasteners on assembled outdoor pieces, so anything you may want to take apart or move later benefits from a bit of care at assembly. On the beach side especially, an outdoor set assembled with the included plain-steel hardware will be effectively welded together within a couple of seasons.
